The City of Montréal is deploying Derq INSIGHT across 100 intersections through SASMI, giving transportation teams real-time visibility into roadway activity and emerging safety risks.
Derq INSIGHT Deployed Across 100 Montréal Intersections
The City of Montréal is deploying Derq INSIGHT as part of its Safety and Mobility Analysis System for Intersections, known as SASMI. This initiative covers 100 intersections across the city, making it one of the largest deployments of its kind in North America to date.
The deployment gives transportation teams real-time visibility into roadway activity and emerging safety risks. By using real-time traffic data and artificial intelligence, teams can identify trends earlier, better understand field conditions, and support faster, more targeted decision-making.
As part of this initiative, Montréal is strengthening its position at the forefront of intelligent transportation systems and mobility innovation. The project also creates a foundation for broader future deployment across the city’s transportation network.
Supporting Smarter, Safer Mobility
Tacel, a long-standing partner of the City of Montréal in intelligent transportation systems, is supporting the implementation of the project and helping facilitate the deployment of Derq across the city.
Derq INSIGHT helps transportation agencies move beyond mainly historical analysis by giving teams a more proactive way to monitor safety and mobility conditions. This approach can help teams better understand network activity, identify risk situations, and respond more quickly to emerging safety concerns.
Official Project Perspectives
As Mr. DeSousa noted:
“Across Montréal, the safety of all road users is an absolute priority. The deployment of artificial intelligence solutions marks a strategic shift toward proactive mobility management, allowing us to anticipate risks, respond more quickly and, ultimately, save lives, while positioning the City as a leader in innovation.”
As Mr. Teodoresco noted:
“This project clearly illustrates how innovation, driven by the intelligent use of data, can improve the daily lives of Montrealers. By fully leveraging real-time data, we strengthen our ability to analyze issues in the field and optimize the targeting of our interventions where they generate the greatest impact.”
As Yassine Benamghar, Vice President at Tacel, noted:
“Transportation agencies are under increasing pressure to make faster and better-informed decisions within increasingly complex transportation networks. The Derq deployment in Montréal demonstrates how real-time safety intelligence can help teams respond more quickly to emerging risks on the road network.”
Looking Ahead
For Montréal, this deployment means a stronger ability to monitor roadway movement, identify risk situations, and better understand the needs of the network. It reflects a shift toward more proactive safety and mobility management supported by real-time data.
By providing clearer visibility and faster decision-making support, Derq INSIGHT helps agencies build roadway networks that are safer, more efficient, and better prepared for the future of urban mobility.
We are pleased to support the City of Montréal, Derq, and the broader transportation community in this important road safety initiative.
